What is a group of cows called?

A group of cows is called a herd. Cows are social animals and prefer to live in groups for safety and social interaction. Within a herd, there is a hierarchy established based on age and dominance. The leader of the herd is usually the oldest or most dominant cow. Cows in a herd will often exhibit cooperative behavior, such as grooming each other and protecting calves from predators. In some cultures, cows are revered and considered sacred animals, such as in Hinduism where they are seen as a symbol of abundance and Mother Earth.
